A Very Sexy City

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!! If you haven't seen the movie yet and don't want to be spoiled, do not continue to read!!!!! Here we are, dressed to the nines.

Our night was really fun. Getting dressed up was great. I loved my outfit. It was sexy and colorful and a little bit camp- just like the movie. I felt really pretty and confident and happy. My sisters and I met at my house and drove out to Orlando together. We dusted off some old Britney Spears cd's and some old mix cd's and sang our way out of town. We got to Cafe Tu Tu Tango and headed for the bar while we waited for the other girls and for our table to be ready. In a tribute to the movie I had a cosmo and it was delicious. Once the other girls arrived we headed to the table. We ordered a bunch of different appetizers and had a couple more drinks and laughed and talked and had a good time.

After dinner we headed towards Point Orlando. We put the car in valet (behind a Lamborghini) and started towards the theater. I was on the lookout for other girls dressed in their Sex and the City finest but couldn't see any. We got into the theater and saw the line formed for the movie. We were the only ones dressed up! All the other girls were schlepping in Juicy track suits or jeans. I was surprised by the number of men who were there with their girlfriends. Kudos to them but I figured more people would be out with their girlfriends. We got into the theater and the air wasn't working real well so it was hot and we were all starting to lose our buzz. A couple groups came in that were dressed up but we were by far the cutest girls there.

I've been thinking a lot about this review of the Sex and the City movie. I left the theater last night really not sure of how I felt about the movie and really wanted to think about it before I gave a review. After some consideration and replaying the movie in my head, I'm going to say that I really did like it. It definitely wasn't what I thought it would be but it was a good movie nonetheless.
The first half hour to forty five minutes of the movie was spectacular. Catching up on what all the girls were doing and watching Carrie do a fashion show while packing up her apartment was great. It was fun and lively and funny just like it should have been. The movie picks up as if life has just continued since the series ended four years ago. Carrie and Big are still together and are now shopping for the "perfect" new apartment together. Miranda is still married to Steve and they still live in Brooklyn with Brady. Charlotte and Harry are still married and in love and have their adopted daughter, Lily. Samantha and Smith are still together and live in Malibu where Samantha continues to manage his career.

I think some of the banter between the women that made the show so great was kind of gone. Miranda wasn't as sarcastic, Charlotte was a little too uptight- even for Charlotte, Samantha wasn't as fun or risque, and even Carrie was toned down and not as inquisitive about life or love anymore. Anthony and Stanford were both back but they didn't have the same bitchiness towards each other that used to be so hilarious. They almost seemed friendly.

I think the word I used to describe the movie last night was, "fluffy". One thing I liked about the series is that the characters had a little bit of grit to them. They were happy and, for the most part, hopeful but they still carried a little pessimistic "chip" on their shoulders from being on the dating scene in New York City for twenty years. I felt like that chip was missing in the movie. There were also several scenes in the movie that I think had no real relevance to the story and could've been cut out completely. But, I was reminded that a lot of the episodes were like that too so I think I'll let that slide.

The movie was funny though. I laughed through most of it. There were some sad moments too when Big left Carrie at the altar and when Steve confessed to Miranda that he had slept with someone else. I get kind of annoyed with "miracle" pregnancies when I see them on TV and in movies so Charlotte's surprising pregnancy announcement rubbed me the wrong way. Don't get me wrong, I would be happy for someone who got pregnant by accident at 40 years old, after trying for 10 years and after they'd been told that they only had a 15% chance of conceiving naturally, I just don't feel very hopeful that something like that would actually happen in real life. But, I guess I have a pessimistic chip on my shoulder.

The movie was light and fun and colorful with lots of great clothes and great shoes. The women all looked really great, if not too thin. It was fun to see "where they are now". I would definitely like to see the movie again. Maybe not when I've had two drinks and am coming down from my buzz and maybe not at 11pm at night and maybe not in a theater where the air wasn't great and the seats were uncomfortable. I would love to hear what you all thought of the movie. Post your reviews in the comments.

My view on the movie was that I liked it but there were definitley parts that could have been left out. I think that it was too long!!! My favorite part of the night though would have to be dinner with the girls!!! We will have to do it again soon!
